Wybone wheelie bin covers regenerate the City of Glasgow

Last year, we announced that we had won the tender to supply Glasgow City Council with large capacity BWB Wheelie Bin Covers.
Part of a £3 million scheme, the requirement for larger wheelie bin housings aimed to replace the number of smaller litter bins around the city, increasing the operational efficiency of their waste management services and present opportunities for on-street recycling.
Unlike standard litter bins, these covers house wheelie bins, which reduces the need for plastic bags that will end up in landfill along with tonnes of general waste.
Almost 950 larger capacity wheelie bin covers have now been put in place across six neighbourhoods and Glasgow city centre. The scheme aims to install 5200 new street bins across Glasgow by 2020.
The council require 140, 240 and 360 litre wheelie bin housings for both litter and recycling collections. The BWB Wheelie Bin Cover is manufactured from durable 2mm galvanised steel, powder coated in the council’s choice of black and blue, offering maximum corrosion resistance.
An audit from Keep Scotland Beautiful identified a reduction in litter in areas where these bins have been located. Following these results and positive feedback from public surveys, Glasgow Council have since ordered a further 1,000 wheelie bin covers.
We’ve been able to meet the council’s bespoke requirements and make amendments to these wheelie bin covers. This new design now features a pitched lid, which includes a fitted large ashtray that sits flush in the top. These large capacity units are also fitted with stubber plates to prevent cigarettes being put out on the bin.
Our in-house team have been working hard to meet the requirements of their tender; production on the next phase of wheelie bin covers will start over the next few weeks and rolled out across the boroughs and city centre over the coming months.
