We’re excited to announce that we won the tender to supply litter bins to Vale of Glamorgan Council.
The council went out to tender last year, which included the replacement of their current and worn litter bins, as well introducing additional bins in high profile areas.
Adam Sargent, Neighbourhood Services Manager at Vale Council explained why the council requested the tender: “We needed to replace the litter bins that had come to the end of their life, as well as increase the number of bins at two of our busy resort sites – Barry Island and Penarth Seafront, ready for the Summer months.”
The council opted for 150 MLB/120 and MLB/240 litter bins in traditional black and gold, with Welsh over English ‘LITTER’ text and bird flaps fitted to the apertures. Some of the units also featured raised liners that allow room for a rat baiting station to prevent animals getting inside the units.
The 240 litre units are ideal for busy environments, with two galvanised steel liners and exterior handles, this makes lifting and emptying easier for the operative.
The council also decided on two slightly different colour schemes, including dark blue and gold and a bespoke ivory and green colour. Adam told us the reason behind the ivory and green colour scheme. “This colour scheme is the historic colour for Penarth Seafront. The lamp columns and balustrades have historically always been this colour, so we felt this colour scheme would really compliment the area.”
“The black and gold litter bins are for general use within parks and open spaces, as well as adopted highway land. Despite the three different colour schemes, I feel the continuity of style ties the Vale together.”
The MLB Litter Bin is our flagship range of cut corner steel bins, manufactured from durable 2mm galvanised steel, primed and powder coated to offer maximum corrosion resistance. As a leading steel manufacturer, we offer a 10 year anti perforation warranty and 1 year parts and labour guarantee as standard.
Adam told us that the bins will be sited in the forthcoming months, and sent his compliments to the team: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Wybone – very professional, helpful and quick to adapt to my requirements.”
We worked with the council last year on a project in Barry Island. Members of the Barry Youth Action team raised concerns to the council about litter in their area, as a result the youth council designed colourful artwork to be applied to the bins as a way of trialling the additional bins and bringing awareness to littering.
The bins were met with a positive response and Barry Youth Action worked alongside the Vale of Glamorgan Council to have them purchased and sited in the suggested locations to help keep Barry tidy. Visit our news page for more information on this story!
We’re happy to have won this tender to help Vale of Glamorgan clean up their coastlines and hope to work with them again in the future.
We try to encourage councils and organisations to tidy up our country and be proud of the area we live in! If you would like to speak to one of our team, feel free to get in touch with us on 01226 352333 or email [email protected]

Last year, we announced that we had won the tender to supply Glasgow City Council with large capacity BWB Wheelie Bin Covers.
We’ve recently worked with London Borough of Islington to manufacture and supply 300 bespoke MLB/224 Litter Bins, as part of a ‘recycling on the go’ initiative across the borough.
We’ve recently supplied a large quantity of our fully plastic sackholders to NHS Lanarkshire – the third largest health board in Scotland.
Wybone has been one of the leading manufacturers of street furniture and clinical waste products for 50 years. As we’re celebrating our golden year in business, we’d like to take a look back at our heritage.
We’re proud to announce that we have been awarded a place on the NHS Supply Chain for another year – making this our 20th year on the framework!
You might have heard us mentioning cup recycling and Simply Cups in particular, over the last few years.
The debate around disposable coffee cups has become a household recycling name since chef and environmentalist Hugh Fernley Wittingstall revealed that only 1 in 400 disposable cups are recycled in the UK.
With this important shift in recycling focus, we joined forces with Simply Cups back in 2017 to encourage cup recycling across the UK with our range of innovative recycling bins.
