Fire stopping is the technique of protecting openings created during construction for installation of pipes, cables or other items in order to limit the spreading of flames, smoke and other toxic gases within a space.
Fire stopping materials are broadly classified into two categories i.e. mechanical and non mechanical. Some fire stopping materials are designed to withstand wind and thermal loads as well. While selecting a fire stop system the most important thing is to find one that suitably matches actual conditions (like configuration of floor/ceiling/wall and materials used) in a space.
